Ahem, did you say Champions!?

Ok, while I’ve been away a lot has happened in the world. I’ll probably get.on to that later on at some point but right now I want to address the sphere of football. Do you remember my obsession from way back when? No?? Really?? Shocking… does this help??

Yep. That’s my team. And do you know what happened a couple of weeks ago?! That’s right, we were crowned EFL League 2 Champions!!! Yeah baby!!
You may not be a football fan but you can at least be happy for me and the city of Portsmouth! It caps a four year battle to get out of the bottom league of the EFL. It’s lucky I don’t have hair otherwise I would have been tearing it out!!
After dropping from the Premier League to League two in a space of 4/5 years, falling faster than a fat bloke on a bouncy castle…
It seems like things are on the up… we have an ex-CEO of Disney looking to buy us out and insert some cash into the club. Whilst it sounds like you’d snap their hand off for cash, we’ve done such a good job as a fan owned, and saved, club, it’s hard to trust any potential buyer without a strong sense of trepidation. We’ll see what happens there, I think voting has just closed…
Anyway, this may be a sign of the future… I may end up writing more about football, but hopefully I won’t bore you too much!
I hope you can join me in the celebrations that I’ll be having over the summer in pompey’s honour!
Play Up Pompey, Pompey Play Up!!

Stuff that’s been happening…

Hello all you lovely people!

Once again I return from the depths of over-worked, under-paid pit of desperation!  I have done my time and I crawl, on my hands and knees, to the safety of the weekend…

Oh crap, I’m working again.  Well, I do get Saturday off, but Sunday and Monday will be spent staring at a computer screen, looking at databases and numbers.  Just think of the money….. I have to keep reminding myself!  I’m fortunate to have my overtime approved in these austere times, mainly because I’m too damn busy during the week!

You know the worrying fact though… the work we are doing is actually making me kind of proud.  Please, for the love of God, don’t tell them that!

Anyway, that’s work.  Now at home, a couple of interesting things, both incorporating plastic food.

The positive; my boy has started trying to play football with anything that resembles a ball.  This led me to laugh at him.  Quite a lot.  Sounds harsh I know, but you keep a straight face when a fifteen month old starts dribbling around the front room with a plastic lettuce…..  Come on, you’d laugh wouldn’t you?!

On the flip side, an image that I didn’t think I’d ever see.  The same boy sitting there, quite content, watching Curious George or something, happiliy sucking on a bright orange plastic carrot.  A parent shouldn’t have to see that.  Sit behind a chair, or hide behind the curtains or something, please….

However, this weekend is a big one for the daughter.  She is being taken away by her aunty and uncle and cousin, and will be spending a week away from us, down in Dorset.  This is the first time that she has spent a long time away from us, the first time she’s been to Dorset (although I’m sure it’s lovely) and a first time sleeping in a tent.  I personally think they’re going to have their work cut out, but I can guarantee that the daughter will love it.  But I say this now, when she comes back all happy and excited about her adventure, I’m still not going camping.  I’ve lasted 32 years without doing it, I’m not starting now!

On a lighter note, the football finishes this weekend.  The final game of the season.
It’s been a tough season for Portsmouth.  Three bosses in six months, languishing near the foot of the table and football leagues itself, it’s been a scary time to be a Pompey Supporter!

But along comes Andy Awford, now permanent manager and winner of Manager of the Month for April, produces 4 wins and a draw and suddenly we’re mid table!  Win on Saturday and we finish in tenth, some achievement.  Next year we’ll be back at the top of the league, I’m sure!

Anyway, enough from me at this point.  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I should be back soon.  I promise!

Constant Working

BSB + All Saints, London: What a week…

What a few hectic and busy few days that have been had!

As a present for the wife’s birthday, I purchased tickets for O2 to see her favourite band.  This later developed into a couple of nights stay in the city of London for us, with no kids.  Heaven!

Anyway, we headed up on the Thursday having booked into a hotel in Canning Town, at what is our view from the room window?  Yes, the docks.  But behind that was the O2 itself and Canary Wharf off to the right.  Perfect placement.

The rest of Thursday was spent at Westfields in Stratford and relaxing in front of the telly, without the need for any childrens channels…

Friday, we headed out to Canary Wharf, a part of London we have yet to visit.  Instead of using the underground, we decided to try out the Emirates Airline.  What’s that, I hear you ask?!  Well, I’ll let you off ‘coz I didn’t know they existed ’til a couple of days ago.  There is now a new way to get from Canning Town to Greenwich; cable cars!

Yep, there is a set of cable cars that goes straight across the river to the front door of the O2.  How convenient!  And also, pretty much the same price as normal public transport, even better!
O2 Arena from the air

All this leads up to the main attraction that evening.  We may be situated in the Gods of the O2, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it might have been.  A perfect view for us to see the whole attraction.  Granted, I should have taken my camera and not relied on my phone, but still it was a great night.

I should have difficulty in admitting that, but to be honest, I don’t.  I’m comfortable in my music tastes.  Whilst eclectic, I know my roots are heavy metal and rock, but I don’t mind a BSB boogie every now and again!  And come on, who wants to miss the first gig in London for fifteen years of All Saints!  Who, by christ, are exactly the same.  They sound no different and pretty much look the same too.  A few words were forgotten but that can be excused.

BSB + All Saints, O2 London
BSB themselves once again put on a good show.  Filled with some classics as well as material from the new album, plenty of stage covering dances and also an acapella set just to show their maturity.  All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed it.  It’s the second time I’ve seen them, and both shows were good entertainment and a bloody good sing song!

Despite me being ill throughout the whole duration, it was still a good show and good time.

Back to work now….

BSB O2

Still Here…

Right, well it all went wrong, didn’t it?!

I promised to do this properly and post regularly.  Have I?  No.
I started a photo challenge.  Did I carry it on?  No.

Yeah, I know, pretty rubbish.  I do have some excuses lined up though, if you want to hear them?

You do?  Great…. there’s hope you still like me….

There’s not really loads of excuses but one major one that’s kinda kept me busy.
Cast your mind back, remember those posts where I explained my job situation?  As in the fact I didn’t have one?  Well, things have progressed……..

Sort of.

I still don’t have a job.  Technically.  Scandalous isn’t it?!  It’s been about nine months now and they still haven’t sorted it out.  However, as I said, there has been movement.  I have been turfed out of my old department and am now claiming squatters rights.

I am currently in a position that doesn’t exist, yet, carrying out a job I actually want.  It’s similar to parts of my old job so I’m happy with that, but it’s a more specified subject, which I find interesting.  I’m not going to tell you what it is though, keep my air of mystery!

Basically, I am waiting for funding.  This being the Civil Service it takes a decade for someone to make a decision and pay for anything.  The money’s there, the idea has been approved, just noone will put their name to the decision.  Typical.  That really helps me….

The difference is, this is a job I actually want, and the people in this department actually want me too.  There’s a novelty!  There’s a real sense of team spirit and pride here, and I like it.  Plus, I’ve already got my own office for the first time in about ten years, and it’s a comfortable atmosphere.  I get to play my music when I want!

Alright I’m gushing slightly, it just makes a change to have enjoyment at work.  The only downside, my God, how busy?!  I’ve even started to work late and at weekends!  That’s a shock to the system.

Anyway, that’s the reason I’ve been away predominantly.  There are other matters like the children….. who are just always a nightmare!  I’ll update later about the kids, but I just wanted to say, I’m still here!!

I will make more of an effort too, I promise.

Flair is the difference

Still with me?

Hey there people.

As you can see, I have started strong with the Photo Challenge but you may also notice that the posting of pictures has not exactly been consistent.  I apologise.

I’ve still got a heck of a lot of things going on over here, still trying to sort out a job for a start(!), so please bear with me.  I intend to stick with this challenge so photos will be posted, I promise, just maybe not on the actual day…….

I know most of them are of the kids, which is one of the goals I set out with, but hopefully I will start giving you more of a variation, with more random things!

So I guess what I’m asking is that you stick with me on this.  I will get better, I just haven’t sorted out my routine as of yet!

Thank you people, I hope you are all well….

Another Deadline…

Well, Monday was the cut off for the next stage of applying for a job.  I made it, just.

I know it doesn’t put me in good stead but I hate deadlines.  Really, hate them.  I must admit when it comes to work, I’ve never ever missed one.  Well, not in the last nine years anyway.

But, those deadlines are usually ones that are for the job I’m doing, so are fairly interesting.  The other one isn’t.  All the other one is, is making sure I fill in a form where I have tobig myself up, so that my name is considered for a job I don’t want.  Hardly an incentive.

Alas, needs must.  Admittedly I’ve left it to the last minute, which is mainly due to the fact that I am so busy doing the job that they don’t think they need anymore (breathe….) but it was done.  Begrudgingly.

So what now?

Now I wait.  Wait to hear if I have been selected for interview, again for a job I don’t want.  Is it just me, or would you struggle to find enthusiasm too?!

Anyway, just thought I would update anybody that was interested, and would urge you all to keep your fingers crossed for me.  Using well wishing alone, maybe you can help me get a job!

Positive thoughts……….GO!

deadline

That time already!?!

13 days and counting……

That is how long I have left to prepare for the boys’ birthday.

Can you believe that the little so and so is going to be one already!?  Yes, one.

It’s unbelievable to think how quickly the past year has gone and disappeared.  I can actually still remember the night he was born and the events preceding, which is astonishing in itself when you take into account how useless my memory is, as if it were only a few weeks ago.

I know it’s all down here from here, but I think we were extremely lucky, yet again, to get such a happy and contented child.  We haven’t really had any problems with him as yet (knock on all wood please) but he still seems a happy chappy.  Must be in the genes….

The daughter was a contented child, until she learnt to talk and think for herself, now every day is full of back chat and the use of the word ‘no’.  That doesn’t particularly go down well…

Anyway, the birthday is fast approaching.  The gifts are being organised by the wife, but I’ve been trying to maybe make my own decorations for the front room.  Only problem is, albeit I’m not completely creative when it comes to making things, what the hell does a one year old like??  I mean, he watches the tv with his sister of a morning when daddy is still waking up, but I couldn’t tell you his favourite.  He watches everything.  Does that mean I have artistic freedom in creating decorations?  I can mix Fireman Sam with Bubble GuppiesOctonauts with Granny Murray?  Tikkabilla with Postman Pat?

I suppose that would make it easier.  Bit odd mind.

Luckily I believe that it will only be the family attending the house so it won’t matter too much, but still.

___________________________________________________

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I reckon by the time we get to his first birthday, he should be walking.  He’s pretty much nailed the standing alone unaided bit, and he’s getting pretty quick at walking short distances.  Obviously when he’s tired, he spends more time on the floor than anywhere else, but he’s getting there!!

That’s my boy.

The Boy!

A little proud

Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not usually one for self promotion nor do I have a large ego but I am a little bit proud of myself.

I’ll explain.

I’m 31 years old and overweight.  I’m not proud of that but I also can’t hide it!
For years I’ve been saying, as has everyone else, that I need to lose weight.  But having an office job for the last eleven years, that was approximately one minute away from the office, not much exercise ever took place.

But for some reason in the Summer something clicked in my brain.  As I say I’m not one of these people that have to tell the world exactly whats going in my life (yes, I know I’m writing a blog about what’s going on my life, I get it!) but I am genuinely chuffed with myself.

Since June, through doing more exercise and not eating as much rubbish but not following a diet, I have lost weight.  I am so proud, but embarrassed it’s taken so long…

Anyway, last Monday I hit the latest milestone, hence why I’m telling you now.

Since June I have lost three stone!!  Yes people, proud.

Remember the Diet!

New job? No, just new house…

So, here we are again.

Right, well I still don’t have a job lined up but I have moved.  I have now moved into another house which is literally about a thirty second walk from the old house.

Yes, I can hear you, I believe ‘why’ is the question you are asking.  Ok, I’ll explain.

I work for the Civil Service and subsequently live in Government housing on the site where I work.  Very good for me as I don’t drive and the nearest town is about ten mile away, bad because I don’t drive and the nearest town is ten mile away.  Anyway…

The old house was oil fired central heating, really expensive to buy in bulk, but the heating system was also starting to fail.  It had all been there since the fifties and never replaced. So it really wasn’t being efficient, couple that with the inability to constantly purchase oil and the metal frame windows, all sorts of problems occur.

Well, suffice it to say, the new place has had a brand new system put into place which is said to be really green and efficient.  I’ll tell you when the first electric bill comes in, but it’s on constantly and it’s lovely!  It’s got new carpets, new paint, just feels better already.

The kids and animals have settled in instantly, which is a bonus, and even the missus has stopped moaning as much!  (Sorry dear, not quite true….)

But you know the really weird thing??  My department used to be based in a house on site, and I worked in that house for about six years.

Yeah, guess which house I’ve moved in to…..

Moving Home

Hello, have we met??

Ok ok, look, no excuses……

I am still alive I promise, but things are just stupidly busy!

I will endeavour to update you all in the coming days, but just to outline what’s been happening; I have lost my position at work and need to find a new one, I’m in the middle of moving house, my three year old thinks she’s 15, my boy is soooo close to walking and I’m going ever more grey.  Well, with the hair that’s left….

That’s just a quickie and I will expand soon, but I apologise to all those people that stop by to see what rubbish I’m typing and have found nothing.  I am profusely sorry.

Normal drivel will return soon.

In the meantime, something interesting…..
